School's identified most critical need(s) addressed in this plan: Please check only the primary area(s). Improvement in some academic areas may improve all other academic areas but if the goal is to improve reading or technology, only check that area. |
| |
Mathematics
Reading
Science
|
| |
List the most critical academic area identified by the school community council (or committee for charter schools) and explain why the area has been selected. Remember, the law requires that the area must be the "most critical academic need." |
| |
|
| 3. |
Briefly describe the School LAND Trust Plan. Plans should be research based and
include specific quantifiable measurements.
|
| |
Academic Goals:
Enter specific academic goal(s) South Weber EL has set to improve student performance with School LAND Trust money. Please describe specifically what part of the goal is being supported by School LAND Trust money, if addressing goal(s) will use additional funds. Be certain that these narratives and the Financial Proposal agree.
|
| |
Science: Improve Science skills, as measured by CRTs, by implementing after
school science hands on modules facilitated by Community Council volunteers.
Reading: Improve and increase interventions and student reading achievement, as
measured by the CRTs, by expanding the DIBELS assesment program to include wider
progress monitoring of students. Mathmatics: Improve and increase interventions
and student math skills, as measured by CRTs, by creating and administering
schoolwide standards-based math assessments. |
| |
Planned Steps:
Describe in detail the steps South Weber EL will take to reach each goal. Describe specific actions (Hire a remediation reading teacher, purchase microscopes for AP Biology class, provide professional development to improve writing instruction) that will be taken to achieve the goal. In short, please provide a road map to success. Be sure to identify any actions described in the planned steps that will be funded with revenue other than School LAND Trust. If you will be spending funds for professional development, please describe the planned training and how it supports the goal and academic area of focus. Please specifically explain what the funds will be used for (tuition for the course, travel, substitute teachers).
|
| |
Science: Student achievement will be increased using teachers and volunteers to
tutor students in curriculum based after- school science activities. Activities
will be open to all students from grades 4-6. Trustlands funds will be used to
fund this program and personnel required to run it. We plan to fund two Science
Assemblies per year for all students. These assemblies will be curriculum based
and will relalte to concepts being taught and assesed within the classroom.
Reading: First grade tutors will be retained using Trustlands funds. All
first grade students receive the opportunity to read to, work on phonics and
decoding skills, at least once per day. Our afterschool program will use our
SuccessMaker program as well as teachers assisting students with work completion
to increase achievement. Students eligible include those scoring a 1 or 2
proficiency on the CRTs. Each student will come one night per week for one hour
to receive additional time and tutoring from teachers hired with Trustlands
funding. Our AR program will be continued and will serve as a reading
incentive program with the goal of increasing student reading and ultimately
increasing student achievement. Books and quizzes will be purchased with
Trustlands funds. All students are eligible. 5th grade students will improve
their reading, writing and communitcation skills through participating in
writing, and presenting our SWKN weekly closed circuit news broadcast.
Math: Trustlands funds will be used to fund a Curriculum Based Math
Assessment. These assessments will be given three times per year with weekly
progress monitoring for students falling below proficiency. Our SWAT team\'s
focus will shift to math. Our SWAT leader, hired by Trustlands, will now be
available to organize math manipulative boxes, gather parent volunteers for
tutoring, and assist teachers particularly with the tutoring of math times
tables and other math facts. All students are eligible. |
| |
Measuring Progress toward goals:
Which beginning and ending specific quantifiable measurements is South Weber EL going to use to measure progress towards each goal? The same beginning and ending measurements (test scores, number of library books checked out, informal teaching assessment, etc) must be used so results can be compared. What is the target to be achieved? How to enter a chart or table.
|
| |
Science:
In addition to CRT results, we will use classroom assessments on specific
Core standards to monitor students\' progress in Science.
Math:
In addition to CRT results, we will use ILS gains, school wide curriculum
based math assessment, and classroom assessments on specific Core standards to
monitor targeted students\' progress.
Reading:
In addition to CRT results, we will use ILS gains, DIBELS, In addition to
CRT results, we will use ILS gains, and classroom assessments on specific Core
standards to monitor all students\' progress, and classroom assessments on
specific Core standards to monitor targeted students\' progress. |
| |
Plans for expenditures of increased distribution:
The 2009 - 2010 distribution is an estimate. If the actual distribution is more than the estimate, how will the school expand progress towards the goals described in the plan, with an increased distribution? Please provide an adequate explanation of academic use so that it will not be necessary to go back to the school board for approval to expend an increased distribution. Please be aware it is not likely that schools will see the kind of increases as in recent years, but some increase is possible.
|
| |
Reading: We would like to continue our very successful reading tutors program
to include grade levels 2 and 3. |
| 4. |
The School LAND Trust plan should be an academic subset of the school improvement plan/strategic plan. How does this plan relate to the school improvement plan/strategic plan? |
| |
The Trust Lands Plan and School Improvement Plan are created together as one
plan. Trust Lands is part of the School Improvement Plan. |
| 5. |
Financial Proposal - This Financial Proposal must match the narratives provided in the School Plan. |

We plan to use the funds for bus costs on goal-related field trips, admissions
to field trip locations, and for student council expenses related to their
travel, admissions, and printing costs. For travel we plan to use $350.00, for
admissions and the remaining $150.00 will be used for printing. |
| |
Please explain any planned expenditures in General Supplies.
Please include each general category with the associated dollar amounts. |
| |
General supplies include: AR quizzes, afterschool program and staff development
books and materials, additional science supplies and math manipulatives for the
math boxes along with math facts materials for tutoring, DIBELS timers and
supplies to administer the DIBELS assessments. Also, the purchase of the
curriculum based math assessment tracking tools for our yet to be chosen CBM
assessment. Our Science assemblies will be funded by Trustlands funds.
Since we will have computer labs in both buildings, Trustlands funding will
also be used to buy licenses for computers as we will have more computers than
we have at the present time. This software purchase will provide up to date
word processing software for our students to increase their keyboarding and
writing proficiency.
Trustlands funding will also be used to update our video camera so we can
continue our SWKN weekly closed circuit news broadcast. There will also be some
small expenditiures for supplies for our news broadcast. |
| |
If you plan to Carry Over more than one third of your distribution, please explain below. |
| |
The carry over for the 2009-10 year of more than one-third the funds received
results from the fact that we did not have the after school program in the
previous years\' format. Our after school program facilitator suddenly became
very ill and missed a great deal of school. For this reason, we canceled the
program as a whole and went with teachers tutoring select students after school.
This was not funded by Trust Lands, but was done by volunteer effort. We will
have two buildings at our location next year K-2 and 3-6. We feel that the
carry over will be best used as we look to facilitate the needs of the two
separate schools. It is a unique opportunity, working within our plan, to
utilize this generous funding on two different levels of the elementary school
experience. |
