School Plan description:
The Land Grant Money will be used for the following: 1. Continue the funding of the Home Library. We will purchase bags, boxes, labels and books. 2. Pay for an aide to keep the I Can Read tutoring program running smoothly , The Land Grant Committee proposes to use the Land Grant money for the following purposes during the 2001-2002 school year: 1. Continue to fund the Home Library, which has found great support with parents this last year. The Home Library needs supplies, such as bags, boxes, labels and more books, especially for the kindergarten and first grades. 2. Continue to provide support services in the form of an aide for the I Can Read tutoring program. It has been very successful to have an aide available to help the volunteer tutors plan lessons and find substitutes as well as get students from classes at the appointed time. This on site support has helped the tutoring program function much more smoothly this year. QRI test results will be included in the profiling to show student growth in reading. It is mandated as part of the I Can Read program that all participants will have a QRI given as a pre-test and a post-test. The Reading Committee feels that the changes we have implemented this past year have improved our reading instruction in the primary grades and we plan to continue to improve our program during the next school year. We are excited about the in-service training we will be receiving as part of the district wide emphasis on reading and feel that it will further enhance our reading program at Kanab Elementary.

Parents sit down and read with their children.

ACCOUNTABILITY

3. Narrative report

The Home Library has been very useful and helpful for the Reading program in the school. We have been fortunate to have dedicated teachers and assistants to organize this room. It has been labeled by many of the state people as one of the schools that could be used for helping others get started with the Home Library. This program will be helpful in achieving our goal of having all students reading on level by third grade. We will be using DRA, and Degrees of Reading as instruments in assessment. This program has allowed us greater flexibility in reaching those students who have special needs and providing more reading literature for the students.
