Reading/Language Arts continues to be Naples School's area of greatest academic need. Our School Land Trust committee's goal remains that of ensuring an increase of at least one year in instructional reading level among all students by the end of the school year. Our committee wishes to use our 2002-2003 School Land Trust funds to further support the purchase of reading/language arts instructional materials. 2002-2003 is the reading/language arts textbook adoption year in our district. A committee of teachers and administrators is currently working carefully to select a reading/language arts program appropriate for each grade level in our district. Should our school's allotment of district textbook funds prove insufficient for purchasing all of the reading/language arts adopted materials recommended by the district textbook adoption committee for our school, our School Land Trust committee wishes to use our 2002-2003 School Land Trust funds to assist in this purchase. Should our school's allotment of district textbook funds indeed prove sufficient for purchasing all of the reading/language arts adopted materials recommended by the textbook adoption committee for our school, then our School Land Trust committee wishes to use our 2002-2003 School Land Trust funds to purchase additional books and materials for our leveled library of "just right" texts. In addition to the Qualitative Reading Inventory (QRI), our committee will measure or assess student academic improvement by analyzing results of end-of-level state and district mandated reading tests.

Although our school's allotment of district textbook funds did not completely cover the costs of purchasing the language arts adoption materials recommended by the district textbook adoption committee, and approved by our board of education, Naples School has been able, with School Land Trust money, to complete our purchase of these materials. Additionally, our School Land Trust funds have been used to purchase additional books and supplies for our school's leveled library. All funds have been spent. Student academic progress will be measured by analyzing results of end-of-level state and district mandated reading tests, to be administered in April and May, 2003.
