Councils
Every school has a school community council consisting of the principal, elected teachers and a majority of elected parents. Charter schools are instead required to have a trust lands committee that includes more elected parents of students currently attending the school than all other members of the committee. Effective school community councils and trust lands committees work to address the most important academic needs of students. Some of the council's activities are required by law and rule, but most are simply expressions of community-spirited individuals trying to do what they know must be done to help students succeed.
This page includes tools to help councils and committees succeed. Some tools have been developed in working groups and teams, others by schools and districts, and some tools are provided to clarify laws, rules and compliance requirements. New materials are being added as they are developed.
